The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus has organized "HackTron v1.0" powered by 99x, which is the first-ever Virtual Game Development Bootcamp and Hackathon in Sri Lanka. We intend to create a platform to impart knowledge on game development and to develop related practical skills for undergraduates, fresh interns, and all other enthusiasts, thereby providing a new impetus to the game development industry in Sri Lanka. Our key goals for this project are to broaden the game development community in Sri Lanka, encouraging young undergraduates who are interested in the game development industry, provide an opportunity for undergraduates to enter the industry, supporting game development companies by creating highly skilled game developers, creating a collaborative space to build a community in the game development industry and making a new revival in the game development industry in Sri Lanka and winning the global stage. That’s 14% of the island nation’s total population. The most popular gaming platform in Sri Lanka is mobile. Whereas, the PC is a distant second and consoles are a tiny niche in the Sri Lankan Gaming Market. Some of the games developed in Sri-Lanka are Kanchayuda, NERO, The Chase, and Extraction Valley Devils' Curse, while one of the upcoming games is Threta.
Project OverviewWith two chapters, the entire project is completed in approximately eight weeks. They are Chapter 01, a 10-day Bootcamp available to all island-wide enthusiasts intrigued by the game development sector, and Chapter 02, a 6-week Hackathon open to all inter-university undergraduates.
BootcampThe entire Bootcamp is held from 30th September to 9th October 2021. Through the Bootcamp, enthusiasts can sharpen their knowledge of game development with the Unity engine and after sharpening their knowledge, they can create a game with their ideas and compete in the Hackathon to be the best.
🟣 The Bootcamp consists mostly of three lessons: ◆ 3D & 2D Game Developing, Concept Art Designing, and 3D Designing. 🟣 Following the completion of all of these workshops, all participants will be given four tasks: ◆ Concept Art & 2D Designing, Scripting Task, 3D Graphic Designing, and Terrain Designing TaskUltimately, the top performers in each task will be recognized and awarded specialization certificates, scholarships, and cash prizes.Hackathon
The entire Hackathon will be held from 15th of October to 14th of November 2021.The registrations will be closed on 15th of October 2021 and the development stage begins on 28th of October. There are 3 major rounds to the Hackathon program. 🟣 First Round - Participants will be asked to submit game development ideas, and 30 of them will be chosen as the finest game development concepts. 🟣 Semi-Final Round - Each team will be asked to compile their ideas into a proposal and submit it to a panel of judges. Following those proposals, ten proposals for the final round will be finalized from each proposal. 🟣 Final Round – The teams will be invited to demonstrate their developed game ideas in front of a live judge board and an audience on the final day. Every team should be comprised of two to five members who are undergraduates at the same university. ◆ 1st Place – Rs.100,000 ◆ 2nd Place – Rs.75,000 ◆ 3rd Place – Rs.50,000The Bootcamp is held to inspire the younger generation who are interested in game development to pursue professions in game development in the future, whereas the Hackathon is held to provide undergraduates with guidance and assistance so that they can enter the game development industry without fear. Participants will be exposed to different sources of knowledge throughout the program, and they will eventually be able to determine which path they ought to follow in order to accomplish their dream of building their own perfect game.
